A sad day

January 27th, 2004 · No Comments

Today I went to my uncle Derek’s funeral. A sad day but also a wonderful opportunity to meet members of the family that I haven’t seen for far to many years. For example, my aunt Elsa’s brothers were down from Scotland. Last time I saw them I was 2 years old and one of them recognised me instantly!

It was great to meet Fiona and David after all these years. We’ve kept in touch with Fiona and Pete but lost contact with David and his wife (If you read this David, drop us an email!).

Funerals remind me how important it is to do things when you can and to keep in touch with family. Many’s the time I have been up to Norfolk and thought, “Shall I drop in and see Derek and Elsa?” and then changed my mind or got distracted by less important things. I really deeply regret not calling in the last time I was there.

Farewell Derek and rest in peace. Elsa, Fiona, David and Karen, you have my deepest sympathy and my love.
