Cix Online

October 10th, 2005 · No Comments

This is something of a test for Cix Online. I’ve been a user of Cix for a considerable number of years and mainly their offline reader Ameol. They now have a web based interface (Which is awful to use but better than nothing when away from Ameol) provide by an outfit called Parkglobe. Now in a recent posting in Cix they claim to have spent some money with Google for advertising. The purpose of this test is to see what Google Ads pop up when this blog entry is viewed.

Lets see what entries we get for Cix for www.cix.co.uk or even www.conferencing.co.uk

A bit about Cix and its history from the Cix web site:-
The history of CIX is a long and interesting one. CIX Online has grown out of Compulink Information Exchange, a company formed in 1985 and one that was the first in Europe to offer Internet Services. At the heart of CIX Online is the service that kicked CIX off as a provider of computer based information services, CIX Conferencing. CIX Conferencing gave birth to the CIX Conferencing Community which continues to thrive today. An eclectic community of individuals with diverse interests and expertise particularly in technology.

Business and not-for-profit organisations have used conferencing for many years as a means of running projects and teams, the CIX Virtual Office is an extension of this concept.

1984 Established as shareware distribution company.

1987 Launched CIX Conferencing, the first successful service in Europe to allow PC users to communicate over the public phone network.

1990 15,000 registered users.

1991 Offered ISP services.

1995 Introduced 0845 national dial up.

2002 (June) Telenor separate conferencing from the provision of ISP services and appoint a third party specialist company, Parkglobe, to supply the conferencing service to their customer base.

2002 (July) Parkglobe introduce a web front end to the Conferencing service.

2003 (August) Parkglobe add a suite of new online services to sit alongside conferencing and change the trading name to CIX Online.

2004 (July) CIX Online release the CIX Virtual Office for business.
